You’re not my real sun is an exhibition concept of a group of international art students of the Hochschule für Grafik und Buchkunst, Leipzig. The video sculptures, installations, objects, photographs and paintings deal with the theme of emotional bonds and relationships in times of hyperconnectivity, the illusion of infinite possibilities and the frustration that accompanies them. Terms such as self-love, self-care and narcissism generate tension between the individual and his environment – on the one hand they become the motor of capitalist sales structures and, on the other, find their way back to their own behaviour patterns. The question about the chicken or the egg is therefore here: Have “our” relationship structures been appropriated by industries – be it the cosmetics industry or the digital partner exchange – or do we serve the existing dispositives on the basis of what is available to us? The positions of the exhibition reflect expectations of oneself and others, they illuminate the interference of the public sphere, subjective self-fulfillment and attachment to other individuals. How are interpersonal relationships negotiated through the constant performance of emotional codes? What systems of appropriation are developing from this? Through the different cultural backgrounds of the exhibiting artists, this theme is illuminated from different positions, which together form a heterogeneous overall picture.
