Philip Markert – The Herbergeour Thing Again

The clean and tidy room that you may stay in is the proof of a herbergeours existence. It’s where you rest and eat, where you might fuck and reproduce in a cozy queen-size bed or play ping pong until you’re all sweaty and exhausted. It’s like a stage for your own personal play or a setting for possible interactions. Someone might caress your shoulder. Potentially.
Go and watch TV until late at night and take notes about the cascading mountains of the Alps or the Andean Mountains or about whatever you may like or wherever you’d rather be. It’s unlike easy math adding one and one or multiplying or maybe even dividing. While the door is closed all the time you don’t need to be afraid of not doing it right and not even of not doing it at all. No one is watching. Michael Fried would love this.
The english word harbinger (Vorbote) derives from the middle-english herbergeour. The herbergeour is described as the person to prepare your lodge before your arrival. The herbergeour is never really there. It’s presence can only be seen as the outcome of a plot or in other words the outcome of a series of events.
The herbergeour provides you with a setting then it’s gone. The rest is up to you.
