Since September 2022, the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Jina Amini has sparked protests around the world - including Germany. These protests with the motto WOMAN, LIFE, FREEDOM represent Iran's long quest for democracy, justice and human rights. The regime reacts to the nationwide mass protests in Iran with nothing but violence, terror and oppression.
Since Mahsa's death, women across the country have been at the forefront of the revolution. For months they have been protesting, staging sit-ins, burning their headscarves, cutting their hair, walking the streets without the obligatory hijab and dancing in public spaces. Even in the face of the most severe consequences for their protest, these young and courageous people have not allowed themselves to be silenced until today.
The initiators of "Woman* Life Freedom Leipzig" have invited Iranian artists, illustrators, graphic designers, photographers and activists from inside and outside of Iran to present their works and positions in this protest art intervention. The exhibition is being realised in cooperation with the Rosa-Luxemburg-Stiftung. Over the next ten days, various readings, panel discussions and musical performances will be shown at the a&o Kunsthalle. Opening hours are daily from 16:00 to 20:00.
